Thursday Club: 60 Years of Friendship and Impact

The Thursday Club was the inspiration behind Social Signature, it’s where it all began. On 9 March 1966, a small group of dedicated volunteers in Liverpool hosted the very first Thursday Club meeting, a youth club for young adults with learning disabilities.

From those humble beginnings, the club has grown into a vibrant community, touching the lives of hundreds of members, their families, and the wider Liverpool and Knowsley areas. Over six decades, friendships have flourished, and members have shared countless memorable experiences, from theatre trips and holidays to days and nights out, creating a rich history full of laughter, support, and connection.

The 60-year milestone was celebrated with gratitude for the extraordinary efforts of volunteers, members, friends, and supporters, past and present. “Here’s to 60 wonderful years of friendship, fun, and making memories,” organisers said, “and we can’t wait to see what the next 60 years bring!”
